Lessons

021Stonecrest Farms offers riding instruction aimed at helping students achieve each individual’s horsemanship goals. Whether your goal is to show, buy your own horse, or just enjoy the emotional and physical benefits of riding. The farm has an indoor arena and outdoor facilities that allow for an active year-round riding/lesson program.

Students who are new to our program begin the first session with an instructor orientation. This includes a short interview that is used to assess the riding background of the potential student (if any) to use for planning the initial riding instruction and ensure placement with a compatible horse.

Students who are at the beginner level will be instructed in the basics of grooming and tacking their mount. This will be followed by a private longe-line lesson which will help develop basic knowledge about riding and the correct use of the seat and hands. To assure the safety of all of the students, beginners will continue training with 6 weeks of private lessons before moving into a semi-private or group lesson.

A novice, intermediate or advanced rider will be given a private lesson to determine if he or she is ready to move to a semi-private or group lesson. Each rider will be placed in an appropriately leveled flat or jumping class.

Owner/leasers will be evaluated based on ability and will be placed in private, semi-private, group lessons, or a combination of the above that will best suit their needs.

After the orientation, the instructor and student will work together to develop an individualized riding plan to help set goals and establish the appropriate lesson design.

Students are encouraged to ride at one regularly scheduled time each week or more often if they’re able. This is essential in accomplishing and maintaining progress.
